Dear Carbine Club members,

I write with an update on our AGM and Sam Vestey memorial dinner on Monday 4 November at the Bluebird in Chelsea, starting 6.30pm.

I am delighted to have secured Roger Bootle as our guest speaker.

Many members will know that Roger is an award-winning economist, chairman of Capital Economics and a Daily Telegraph columnist.

He has written several well received books and in 2012 was awarded the Wolfson Economics Prize.

Five days before our AGM dinner, Rachel Reeves will deliver her first Budget. Even Labour supporters are braced for some uncomfortable announcements and far-reaching tax changes.

Roger will be reflecting on these and giving us his view on how the new government’s fiscal and monetary policies will play out.
